Călin Boto is a film curator, programmer, educator, film critic, and writer based in Bucharest, working as an associate curator for Bucharest International Experimental Film Festival (BIEFF) and as of 2025 a short film programmer for ESTE Film Festival (Sibiu).
With a background in film criticism, he has worked as a former member of the selection committee of the Berlin Critics’ Week (2025) and is an alumnus of several film criticism workshops (Locarno Critics Academy, Sarajevo Talents, Talent Press Warsaw). He is a member of FIPRESCI, publishes texts for Filmexplorer (Switzerland), Kortfilm (Belgium), and Films in Frame (Romania), teaches at the National University of Theatre and Film “I.L. Caragiale”, and curates the Il Cinema Ritrovato on Tour in Bucharest.
He took part in press and industry juries (Visions du Réel, Festival du nouveau cinéma, etc.) and reading committees (Queer Palm Lab 2025), and curated film programmes for, among others, the Romanian Cinemateque, Sicilia Queer Filmfest, Trieste Film Festival, and V-F-X Ljubljana.
